Tons of Support From Coral Springs
March 16th, 2005

More than 3,000lbs of urgently needed food were donated to The Cooperative Feeding Program by a Coral Springs group tonight after a successful "March for the Hungry". Similar amounts also went to the "Daily Food" and "We Care" organizations.

The University section of the National Council of Jewish Women held the week long food drive, now in its fifth year, in memory of the late Ruth Shapiro, a 41 year old mother and member of the NCJW who died in 2000 from a rare form of cancer. Shapiro, whose family was present at the closure of the march at the Day School, had initiated the "Food for a Friend" campaign shortly before she died.

The Cooperative Feeding Program, which serves close to 900,000 meals to the hungry and homeless of Broward County each year was extremely grateful for the donation, much of which will be sorted and distributed to the hungry this week.

"We are so very grateful for the efforts of the NCJW and particularly all the young people who participated in the food drive.", commented Marti Forman, CEO of The Cooperative Feeding Program. "It is so important for our community to not only feed the hungry, but to also ask why there are so many hungry people in our country".

The Cooperative Feeding Program is looking for volunteers to help with food drives and food preparation. If you would like to help, please contact the agency at (954) 792-2328 or info@FeedingBroward.org
