Community Leader Designates Award to Feed the Homeless

When the Sun-Sentinel newspaper selected the CEO of a major south Florida hospital for their Community Service Award today, the winner turned around and donated the $ 10,000 prize to The Community Feeding Program.

Mr. John Johnson, President and CEO of the Holy Cross Hospital on Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, was one of two Broward County winners of "The Sun-Sentinel Publisher's Community Service Awards". Johnson, who is well known for his philanthropic activities throughout southern Florida, is a longtime supporter of The Cooperative Feeding Program.

"There are many issues we need to support in our community", Johnson stated in his acceptance speech to more than 400 guests at the Office Depot Center in Sunrise, Florida. "But people should never have to go hungry. I would like to give this financial prize to the organization I am most proud of, The Cooperative Feeding Program".

The Cooperative Feeding Program is a lead agency is advocacy for the hungry and homeless population of Broward County, Florida. The award winning agency serves more than 100 families daily who need emergency food assistance. Another 400+ hungry and homeless clients are fed a hot meal each day, often their only solid meal of the day.

The Holy Cross Hospital is part of the Holy Cross Health Ministries and has been functioning since 1955. Holy Cross is a member of Catholic Health East, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy of the America's.
