Donations sought to restock Broward food bank
Friday, April 4, 2008
Because April is a slow month for donations at area food banks, Broward County Commissioner Sue Gunzburger is asking residents and county employees if they've ''Got Food?'' to help restock the food bank's shelves. ''There is a critical need for food donations now, and I want to encourage everyone to give generously,'' Gunzburger was quoted as saying in a press release. On Monday, Broward will kick off a food drive. Collection boxes will be in county buildings, where employees and members of the community can drop off their donations through May 2. Food collected will be delivered to the Cooperative Feeding Program in Fort Lauderdale. Among the items in demand: canned meats, vegetables and fruit; canned fish; peanut butter; jelly or jam; soups, canned or instant; pasta; rice; cereal, hot and cold; powdered or shelf milk; dry beans; baby formula; baby food or cereal; diapers and wipes.
