June 2005

"Mr. Willie" was a client at The Cooperative Feeding Program for about 6 months during late 2004 and early 2005. Originally from Brooklyn, Willie, now 45, became homeless and joined the ranks of the approximately 10,000 homeless people in Broward County. Willie was befriended by our Chef Joyce, one of the two excellent Chefs and mothers who form part of The Cooperative Feeding Program's dedicated team.

This is an extract from a June 2005 letter from "Mr. Willie" to Chef Joyce:

"I'm still moving along and things are going well for me at the moment. Although, I do have one major bit of bad news: my wife passed away 2 months ago. She had a liver problem. We have a 12 year old son and I am trying to find him.

I just got my new job working for the post office! I'll be starting that later this month, can you believe that? Me, Willie, working for the post office! I am so excited. I pray that life keeps moving up for me. So I will be doing the post office during the day and working in a restaurant at night - I'm doing (food) prep-work now and its going well.

You guys are always in my thoughts. I love you and miss you."

The Cooperative Feeding Program: feeding the body and the soul. Mr. Willie, as a result of food, counseling and friendship is back on track. He is off the street, reconstructing his life, working and paying taxes. All of our supporters should feel proud of what they and Mr. Willie have achieved.
